Securing the Nation: Accelerating Government Cybersecurity in an Age of Digital Disruption

The 2023–2030 Australian Cyber Security Strategy shined a light on a cyber risk landscape where the rapid emergence of AI and quantum computing is fundamentally accelerating the sophistication of modern threats. Recent audits reveal that the implementation of mandatory frameworks continues to lag, leaving critical government systems exposed and vulnerable.

A large-scale shift from compliance-driven activity to continuous, system-wide uplift is required to address technical debt and the risks of Legacy ICT. Modernising digital infrastructure is critical to creating a resilient government posture that can withstand AI-enabled attacks and achieve practical readiness for Post-Quantum Cryptography, ensuring the protection of national interests and the essential services that every person relies upon.

A collaboration between Cisco, the National Industry Innovation Network (NIIN), and the University of Canberra, this white paper brings together the best cybersecurity research and technology capability to address systemic barriers. This provides a forward-looking roadmap to accelerate the effectiveness and impact of Australia’s national cybersecurity strategy, today.
